In FL can a current property manager require a copy of an application for another location before releasing my rental history?

My current property manager was asked to provide my rental history to another property manager, with my permission. My current lease is up in about 80 days so I am looking for a bigger place. I have to give the current property 60 days notice if I am leaving. I put in a rental application for the place I am interested in, he requested my rental history from my current office. I gave my permission to provide the information and they refused until they had a copy of the rental application with the new place? Is that legal? How is my application with someone else, any of their concern? Now, they are still not providing the information to the folks I applied with and I am likely to loose the opportunity... forcing me to either extend my lease, or have to get anther home through the current management company.

FYI- I am not looking to break the current lease, I will see it through its term.
