We put an offer on a house that is a "short sale". We have been waiting to close since November 2010. We finally had a closing date the first week of February but then the bank said the house could not be sold as a "short sale".
The Real Estate Lawyer and the sellers decided to file a complaint, and the sellers let us move into the house while we waited to see what happened. It's almost May and we've decided this has gone on long enough and we would like to start looking for a different house.
How can we be sure that we can tell the real estate agent and the sellers that we are no longer interested in this house. We want to make sure there are no legal ties.

You should probably consult your own attorney about this one. If you have deposited funds into escrow, then you want to make sure you get your money back. Otherwise, just move out. You might be liable for rent during the time you lived there.
